January 10, 2015, Pipeline, Oahu – #TeamNaish rider, and current SUP World Champion, Kai Lenny triumphed this weekend, taking the number one spot for #StandUpPaddling at Da Hui Backdoor Shootout on his Hokua LE.
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original Duke Kahanamoku Invitational, this tribute to “wave sliding” was held at one of Hawaii’s most iconic surf breaks: the Banzai Pipeline, on Oahu’s North Shore.
In addition to the traditional team format, the Shootout handpicked a few of Hawaii’s leading athletes—including Kai Lenny—to showcase their skills on this infamous wave. The result was an epic show put on by a bevy of incredibly talented athletes in surfing, SUP, bodyboarding, bodysurfing and more.
Amidst some pretty challenging conditions and plenty of talented competitors, Lenny stood out in the early rounds and secured his victory in the final. Special shout out to #TeamNaish’s Noa Ginella for pulling into some heavy sections and grabbing the judges’ attention.
